July 21, 2008 : Transformers Busts: Bringing Life to the Static

The design and development team are wrapping up the last couple of Transformers busts for 2008 and without revealing who they are, all I can say is that these 2 are leaders in the fan favorites category. This final piece for the year marks the 31st bust in the series and we at DST would like to thank all the fans and retailers for your support of the line. Thirty one pieces is definitely a milestone for any product line, let alone high end collectible busts.

To mark this milestone we would like to take time to discuss some of the design decisions in designing the Transformers busts and some features we incorporated in up in coming busts.

For starters each and every single bust has a unique base that is representative of that character or class of robot. For example Megatron’s base has elements from his command chair and has the which we would try to mirror in a characters counter part, such as Optimus Prime whose base has a similar design aesthetic.

We’ve also made a great effort to make sure that even characters with similar body types at least had unique parts to themselves such as the three Autobot Cars based on the Datsun Fairlady Z. These up and coming busts of Prowl, Bluestreak, and Smokescreen each have their own unique head sculpt and have some unique parts. As an added feature we even engineered the busts to have detachable magnet shoulder cannons that snap in place in an effort to add more options in displaying the bust. The recently released Jazz bust has removable magnet doors and an arm cannon to mimic his cartoon configuration.

These removable or optional parts have also carried into our recently announced Iron Hide bust and soon to be revealed Ratchet busts where Iron hide has an optional gun hand and removable shoulder cannon which was a homage to the cannon found in his original G1 Toy. The effort in theses details and others such as translucent chest pieces revealing mechanical components truly shows our love for the product.

As the bust line continues we hope we can offer more than your standard bust for the Transformers license.
