August 15, 2008 : Ask DST Q&A #2
DSTChuck: Ok folks, this is Week 2 of the Ask DST feature on the Art Asylum Blog and welcome back! We’re trying to update the product blogs every day but we’ve had some technical difficulties that are slowing us down, so thanks for sticking with us and we’ll get more posts up there for you INCLUDING the much requested In-Store-Date Blog.
We’ve got lots more questions this week but I wanted to try to theme them so every group of fans has a chance. Since most of the questions last week were Star Trek, the folks at www.trektoy.com have just received their final Q&A and I just did a Minimate one over at www.minimatemultiverse.com, I figured I’d do the Miscellaneous one this week (so it’s Battlestar Galactica, Stargate & Misc). We’ll do a Marvel Select & Star Wars one next week followed by Minimates the next week, then Star Trek again. So if you want to have lots of content on this section of the Blog – ask lots of good questions. This web site and especially this section will be what you fans make it. Thanks so much for the support of this new idea and of DST!
Andy Kinnear: Hi DST/AA, Topic: Stargate standard figs. Ages ago the question was asked about Dr. Carson Beckett and General’s Hammond and Landry in the figure range. Are there any developments or news on these characters getting produced? Indeed is there any news on the drawing board for SG1 wave 5, and Atlantis wave 4 in general?
DSTChuck: Andy, I can’t really give out exact future plans for figures. What I will try and do is give you an idea if it’s a character we’re at least thinking about. Hammond, Landry and Beckett are on our radar but I can’t really promise all three of them will be made. Some of Beckett kind of depends on what happens on Stargate Atlantis going forward… The more he’s on the show, the more likely a figure would be. We’ve roughed out our plans for SG1 Series 5 already and Jean St. Jean Studios will start on sculpting that as soon as BSG Series 4 is done and approved. I think for Atlantis we’re going to see what comes up this season on the show, since its such a season of change.
Shane Cockayne: Hi DSTChuck! Can you tell me the scheduled release date for the BSG Adama & Helo Busts?? Also are Boomer & Apollo Busts still on for December release? Thank you.
DSTChuck: Shane, I am very sorry but we’ve had to cancel production on those busts. If demand picks up we’d love to re-start production.
Karl Sherrel: At SDCC, you showed a fantastic-looking prototype of a Sharon Model (Boomer or Athena?) in a flight-suit/t-shirt. Are you planning to release this with Wave 4 (Adm Adama/Roslin)? I’m a fan of your Stargate figures, too. Any plans to continue either SG-1 or Atlantis figures beyond the Season 10 2-Pack?
DSTChuck: I’m glad you like the Sharon! We think it came out with a very nice likeness as well. We’ve pretty much got BSG Series 4 locked down now (Adama, Roslin, Apollo, Cain) so we’ll be announcing the details on the Athena sculpt soon. As for the Stargate franchise, all I can say is that it’s still in active development over here at DST so more stuff will be coming…
DSTMatt: We actually discussed the future of the Stargate lines today and I think fans will be extremely pleased. More on that in the weeks to come…
Brendan Hanley: Hi there! Big Stargate fan from Australia here. Just got 3 quick Q’s for you.
1) I was just wondering if there will ever be a Black Ops Samantha Carter figure made?
2) Would you consider a wave of figures with a majority of secondary characters in it? Characters like General Hammond, General Landry, Walter with computer and iris control, Senator Kinsey, etc?
3) Do you plan to make any more system lords? (Yu and Ba’al are my favorite 2)
DSTChuck: Brendan, before I answer all your questions I have to ask… do the toilets really go down the opposite direction down there? Nah, never mind, I’d rather it remain a mystery.
1) I can’t say yes or no, but I can say we’re aware she’s one of the Black Ops team left to do… and Cater has always sold very well for us… so chances are good.
2) No sorry, we’re not considering anything like that. Even some of the shorter packed secondary characters have spent some time on shelves so we’re going to stick with our plan of mixing them in with the more known characters as a way for fans to fill out their collections.
3) System Lords are on our short list for SURE.
David Alvarez: Hi, I’m a big fan of your Transformers line & I was wondering if you are planning on continuing this line in 2009?
DSTChuck: Yes, we’re still planning more busts and maybe a few other items for next year. We’d like to keep going as long as sales are there – at least until the new movie.
That’s it for this week, so keep sending in your questions by clicking here!
