August 27, 2008 : Ultimate Quarter Scale Goodness
Dear Readers,
I am as far into my Star Wars Ultimate Quarter Scale box as I can be right now, meaning I am done aside from the fact that the factory hasn’t approved my die-lines and DST Matt hasn’t written my box copy yet. I have to say I don’t hate it, I like it a lot. I think you guys will like it too, expect it to be just like most of the other clone war style packaging only I made mine a little more blue rather than white and It has a ton of nice window for you to check out what is inside! Speaking of Clone Wars I did go see the movie, for free (thanks Steve Geppi) and it wasn’t too bad. It was totally made for kids, not even kids, like little kids, toddlers even. It’s just that I want so badly for Star Wars to never end that I get my hopes up on stuff like this and I assume it will be awesome and tailor made for me: The ultimate Star Wars fan. It wasn’t made for me, it was made for my 6 year old nephew, but that’s ok I still was glad I went. I will do my best to get these boxes ready for viewing, hopefully we can show you a sneak preview before they hit the street!
Your favorite Star Wars Fan,
DST-Jen
: Another Day, another Ad cycle, another Awesome UQS Star Wars Figure!
Dear Readers,
Just got done working on the upcoming ads for this month and my favorite, as always is the UQS Star Wars Figure. This month it’s “A New Hope” Obiwan Kenobi, you know the O-G Obiwan! He of course has a great outfit with a ton of layers but I really dig the face sculpt on this one. I am normally the go-to for face sculpt likeness around here and I think this one is money. There’s always fans who don’t like our likenesses or who think they could be better, but I doubt this one will get too much slack from you guys. Not to mention the past two including Darth Maul have been spot on as well!
I am still waiting on word back from the factory as to whether or not the box setup I made is a go, but boy when I get the green light will you guys have a ton of new cool design stuff to hear about. Theres just nothing that makes my day more than having Star Wars stuff to work on, love it!

August 25, 2008 : End of an Era
Dear Readers,
Well that’s it for Transformers for me for a while! I should be all caught up this time. I just finished Rumble and Frenzy up, who each come with a cassette creature (Ratbat and Ravage - you Transformers lovers know what I’m talking about). I shouldn’t have to get any more of these boxes ready until Ironhide, which should be coming out this year as well. Look for the Frenzy and Rumble boxes by the way, they both have extra bio information on them seeing as how they are really two characters in one!
NO MORE than meets the eye!

August 24, 2008 : Inside the Secret Invasion Box Set
DSTMatt here with an updated look at our new Secret Invasion Minimates! Look inside for our updated pictures, INCLUDING the first shots of our heroes in their “human” modes. If you haven’t read Secret Invasion #5, beware my super-mild Spoilers…
: No more time to be OUTATIME
Hurray, I am just about done with this project. I gave DSTJason the pricing and contact info for the PO and I gave DSTSteve the die-line for the packaging. Once the PO is received and the packaging is sent to Universal, I can kick back and relax until this baby is on shelves. (Of course, this means I’ll have to put more attention on the Hoverboard and Hat, but whatever). Why should you care that I’m so happy? Simple. “Done” with me means the countdown has begun until the time you can have this hot little item in your hands. After all, what self-respecting BttF fan could possibly own a Flux Capacitor and not a license plate? That’d just be wrong.
August 23, 2008 : Enterprise D Under Construction, Part 2
Here’s another look inside the making of the U.S.S. Enterprise D. We were focused on these areas after receiving our latest improved sample from our factory and let them know a little more about how the ship needs to work.

: Marvel Minimates Fanundrums
Have you ever tried to condense all the relevant information surrounding one of your favorite Marvel Comics character into a two-sentence blurb? It’s harder than you think! We’re finishing up the new-and-improved packaging designs for the upcoming Series 23 & 24 of our Marvel Minimates line, so I’ve been going over each character’s Wikipedia page with a fine-toothed comb. Here are my own geek-tastic rules for these mini-bios and some examples to help explain.
August 22, 2008 : Settling In & Star Wars Clothes
Dear Readers,
I am all settled in from my move and I am totally making the best of it! I do have a larger cube, although it is clear that our overall space is severely depleted. I have a new desk, and a new group of neighbors and a whole new set of jobs for this month.
: On Photographing Minimates…
Dear Readers,
Today was all about Minimates! Not only did DSTEsti and I give a shout-out to the folks over at Minimate Multiverse for giving us props on our packaging designs, but I also got to start working on the Secret Invasion set!
: Star Trek Enterprise D: A work in progress
Used the style guide mostly for this one, but with a few new touches.
The Enterprise D was TNG … not TOS! (For those who are not Star Trek geeks like me,
TNG = The Next Generation and TOS = The Original Series) so I changed the Kirk headshot for a Picard headshot. Hopefully CBS will approve of me changing out Kirk. But I have to say, if I were to choose a Captain to follow, it’s be Picard. His knowledge of arcane Shakespeare and Geology is mesmerizing! (Plus his head is shiny. I’m a sucker for shiny).
