September 14, 2008 : Punisher:War Zone Minimates
Did any of you out there like that first Punisher movie? No? Me either! For some reason I just wasn’t buying that Thomas Jane guy as the Punisher. I mean I guess it is hard to fill the shoes of the mighty Dolf Lundgren and all that. I am sure everybody has heard they are making a new Thomas Jane free Punisher movie. From the previews it looks pretty good, but sometimes trailers can fool you. At least the new guy looks more Punisher-esque! The important thing here is that we are making Minimates for the movie, how cool is that?! These particular Minimates feature some of the biggest guns in the Minimates universe! All of your other Minimates will be running for cover when these guys show up in your collection!
September 13, 2008 : Trilling Tribbles are Troubling
All of you Star Trek fans out there will be very excited to hear that DST is making Tribbles! I just did an ad for these and they are pretty cool. If you ever wanted a furball that can be either calm or agitated now is your chance. These things are authentic down to the last furry detail. The greatest thing is that if you buy two of them and take them home they will quickly reproduce and you can sell the offspring for big profits! It is a win win situation for everybody!
September 12, 2008 : Ask DST Q&A #6
This week DSTChuck talks Minimates and reveals the future of the Battlestar Galactica line, discusses the possibility of Mortal Kombat vs DC Minimates and clarifies the lineup of the Avengers #1 box set! (more…)
: Indy’s got some stones now.
Sankara Stones, that is (I swear, I have no idea where your minds are these days). Sadly, I cannot show any pictures at this time, but I have just seen preliminary sculpt images for the Temple of Doom bust bank. Booyah! As with Raiders of the Lost Ark, we are doing two versions. One is rough-and-tumble Indy with his whip and a clenched fist ready to take on the Thuggees, and the other is Indy with a machete in one hand and a Sankara stone in the other. Naturally the machete version is my favorite, but you all need to buy both.
: The Spirit Minimates are coming
Did you all know there was a “The Sprit” movie coming out? I am sure you did. Must be an exciting time for Spirit fans. There must be a lot of you out there otherwise this stuff wouldn’t have stuck around since 1940! Anyway the exciting thing is that DST is making Minimates based off of the upcoming movie! Even better news is that this is your chance to have an Eva Mendes Minimate! How great is that? Now you can recreate scenes from 2 Fast 2 Furious or Training Day Minimates style! Anyway, we did an ad for these this month but we couldn’t show you figures. Rest assured they will be up to the usual high Minimates standards .
September 5, 2008 : ASK DST Trek
Martin Paternoster
What will be involved with the Star Trek TOS Electronic Tribble mentioned in the latest ship dates update? If it’s what I think it is, it sounds like a lot of fun
DSTChuck: Martin, the Tribble will have sound and motion. When you first pick it up it will shake slightly and purr after 5 seconds or more shaking it will “scream” and shake more violently, as if a Klingon had picked it up. It has been a ton of fun for everyone here to work on.
: Jetfire and Battle Damaged Jetfire
Been working on getting the many photographs of Jetfire and Battle damaged Jetfire ready to hit their boxes, I am expecting die lines this week and am all for getting these guys to china so they can be back here on time. The normal Jetfire ran in previews some time ago, the battle damaged version which is an exclusive just arrived recently. He has a removable head that you can put in his hand. The illusion it gives you is with helmet and without helmet while also looking at helmet in hand, it’s pretty neat! I love that these guys get more and more interchangeable pieces as the line progresses.
September 3, 2008 : All About Anti-Venom
Marvel’s newest incarnation of the alien symbiote venom is Anti-Venom. Proportionately he is supposed to be built bulkier than Spidey but not as hulking as Venom. After a couple tweaks to the design sketches I decided on an amalgam of the comic pages and promo art with the design feel. Initially, going over the design drawings and penciled comic pages I had to determine the texture of his body. (more…)
: Animation is My Middle Name
