October 17, 2008 : Ask DST #11

This week DSTChuck tackles your Stargate and Battlestar Galactica questions!  Check inside for the full breakdown and learn the fate of Mustache Adama, Stargate spaceships and more!

Brian Petersen:
1) Thanks for doing this! The reason I love DST and AA so much is that you have such brilliant customer relations and communication. You guys rock!
2) I’d like to elaborate on a question that many and myself have asked before: with the Season 10 Daniel/Teal’c 2 pack, will the only accessories include the staff and the transport rings or should we expect a P-90 or the control crystal Teal’c held in Unending?
3) Now that we’ve seen Sam in an Atlantis wave, is there any chance we might see Teal’c as he was in his Season 4 appearance? I know he wasn’t a recurring character, but I just LOVE the way you guys do the Teal’c figures– they’re awesome.
4) Whatever happened to the long, grey Wraith stunners we saw when the first wave of Atlantis figures were presented at conventions? They were there one time, then suddenly vanished in favour of the long brown ones.

DSTChuck: Well I am glad you like these and are having fun with them, I know we’re having a blast! We do love the crossovers so Teal’c is very possible. I’d have to check on the stunner, not sure if that was a licensing change or an error. The two-pack will also come with a Zat gun, staffs for both characters, the book of Origin & a P-90.

Frances Cook:
I’m loving both the BSG and Stargate lines but was wondering when exactly an announcement will be made regarding series 4 of the Stargate Atlantis line. Is there any chance of a Michael the Wraith being produced in this series?

DSTChuck: We’re just about done with BSG4, and the approvals. So now the folks at Jean St. Jean are going to work on Stargate SG-1 Series 5 so we’re well along planning Atlantis Series 4.

Karl Sherrel:
1. Now that BSG series 4 has a release date, when are you going to announce plans to release the Flight suit Athena shown at SDCC? With the Boomer/D’Anna 2 pack on hold, there is no Sharon to go with 2 different versions of Helo.
2. For BSG Ship statues, is the Pegasus or Cylon Baseship under consideration? If so, is it feasible to make thw Pegasus bigger then the Glactica statue?
3. This is just an idea for BSG accessories; how about some of the flags? The ones they use to drap the coffins look pretty nice.

DSTChuck: We’re for sure going to have to find some way to get some Athena / Boomer figures out there! We’re not sure what our next ship will be but those are both great ideas. You are 100% correct though, the size of the Pegasus presents some problems for us.

Kevin Thomas:
Hi again, I have few questions abuot the BSG line.
1. What details can you give about the mustache Adama case topper for series 4? Will there be one in each box? Does that mean two chases in each box?
2. Any plans for more busts?
3. Are we ever going to see bookends?
4. Any chance on getting replicas like the ones made for trek? (But based on BSG :P) like, maybe….. a Cylon transponder, or pistol. Thanks for your time.

DSTChuck: There will be one mustache Adama packed into each full case sold to specialty market stores. Right now the bust line is on hold and we’ve never planned for nor do we have the rights to do bookends. Right now we have no plans for BSG roll play but that doesn’t mean we won’t consider them someday.

Agent 86:
Re: BSG Dear Sir/Madam, Has there been any progress in obtaining approval for the release of the D’Anna Biers action figure (as part of the two-pack with Civilian/Downloaded Boomer) from the studio? If so, is there a new projected release date that you can announce for the two-pack? Thanks.

DSTChuck: I am sorry to say that the studio is still working with Lucy Lawless people to work something out. All I know is she is cool with having BSG product made…

Shaun Martiny:
When are we going to start seeing some Stargate SG1/Stargate Atlantis ships? I’d love to have an AA Daedalus to go with my Stargate figures.

DSTChuck: I am sorry but right now there are no plans to develop ships for either franchise.

Agent 86:
Re: BSG Dear Sir/Madam,
1. Are you able to confirm which BSG head-sculpts from released and upcoming action figures were produced as a result of the actor’s scanning and which were done as “free-hand” sculpts based on photographs?
2. Are you able to update the fans with news on the flight-suit Sharon/Boomer/Athena/Eight action figure which was glimpsed at SDCC? Is there any chance DST would release some better pictures of this product as the photos from SDCC aren’t the best?
3. Does DST plan to increase the upcoming releases of BSG action figures in order to ensure substantial product is available during the screening of the remainder of season 4 in 2009?
4. Series 4 of BSG contains action figures of two of the main characters that BSG fans have been clamouring for since DST announced it held the BSG licence (Admiral Adama and President Roslin). If the line makes it to series 5, is it likely that this series will contain similarly “big names” (for example, Tigh or Baltar)? Or will series 5 instead include more obscure or “one-off” characters like series 3 (Young Adama/Husker, Kendra Shaw and old-school Centurion)?
5. How does DST select which characters are to be produced into action figures? Personally, I was surprised by the selection of characters in series 3 as the vast majority of the characters (with the exception of Gina) only ever appeared in the Razor tele-movie and I would have thought some of the regular primary/secondary characters from the series would have been selected over the one-off characters in a tele-movie. I was wondering what DST’s reasoning behind the selection was. Is it based on information provided by the studio prior to the finalisation of the tele-movie or did DST originally plan to have the “Razor” action figures released at the same time as the Razor DVD?
6. Are any further two-packs (in addition to the Apollo/Dee and the “uncertain” D’Anna/Boomer) planned for future release? Now that DST has a wider range of “base-bodies” to choose from is there any chance DST would produce some “Cylon” boxed sets including variants of the humanoid Cylon characters to assist with army building (for example, white jacket Six (season 1), black jacket Three (season 4) and another Eight (perhaps Fake-Athena from season 4))?
7. If the Number Three/D’Anna Biers action figure is not approved for release by the “studio” in the two-pack with Sharon/Boomer/Eight, will “civilian” Boomer still be released, either individually or in a two-pack with another character?
8. Is there anything the fans can do to assist the “studio” in approving the Number Three/D’Anna Biers action figure (for example, by showing our support for the figure) or is the problem with the release something that fans cannot assist with (for example, a legal/rights issue)? Many thanks. Cheers.

DSTChuck: Umm WOW that’s a LONG list…lets give this a try!
1. I can’t go figure by figure BUT I will say MOST are free sculpts by JStJ studios!
2. I took care of this question a little earlier in this post, but we’ll get some of those figures out somehow!
3. I don’t think we have plans to ramp up more like get back on track. I don’t see any chance for any line we do we’d do more then 3 full waves a year. That does not count exclusives or two packs though.
4. We’d mix core characters as well as secondary characters as we have so far.
5. Series 3 is all Razor characters, part of the thinking was these were some cool characters or cool takes on existing characters and we wanted to get them out while we could and the other characters could be released later or we’d see some cool versions in later episodes that we’d rather do.
6. Two packs are very possible
7. I don’t think army builders is action figures is something we’ll do aside from the toasters.
8. Just hold tight for D’Anna and think good thoughts.

Will Bueche:
If more BSG characters in green fatigues are released (fatigues like the Chief figure wore) will you consider using *matte* green paint so the clothes do not appear to be wet? The wet-look was present on the Chief and on some Stargate figures with similar attire. Will the upcoming Dualla figure be matte? Thanks!

DSTChuck: I think a flat would look better as well. The paint master we sent was matte but based on the paint the factory used for production we got more gloss on some of them then we would like SO we’re going to keep pushing for a more matter, realistic look.

Roderick DeHart:
Is there any chance to make a wave of SG1 figures of the team as they have been seen on Atlantis? For example, Dr. Jackson from First Contact with the heavy BDU jacket with Atero Device, General O’Neill in Blue Dress Uniform from the Return with Ancient Console or Teal’c with long hair and robes from Midway? We already have Atlantis Carter, so how about Business suit IOA Woolsey? Since they are both SG1 and Atlantis, they are the best of both worlds!

DSTChuck: We like the guest spots as well but I don’t see us making a wave of them, sorry.

Roderick DeHart:
Why was there a second delay in SGA series 3? Does the economy have something to do with it? :( Are there still plans for 12″ SGA figures, like that of SG1? I would like to see a McKay and Weir in 12″ size…

DSTChuck: The economy has something to do with everything now but we’re not going to make excuses. We needed to work some issues out with the factory and that cost us some time BUT we should have planned for that so as far as I am concerned its our fault that you’re not getting your figures when you expected them and I am sorry! We’re trying to do better.

Ted Foust:
Hi, Thanks for starting up the Q&A here! Could you please give us an update on BSG series 3 and the 2-packs of Lee & Dualla and Boomer & D’Anna? Where are they in production? Are they still on schedule? Thanks in advance!

DSTChuck: Ted I think a couple of fans bet you to it with these questions but thanks for hanging out - I hope you stay a while!
