November 21, 2008 : Ask DST Q&A #15

DST Chuck tackles your questions about Battlestar Galactica and Stargate in this latest installment of Ask DST! Check out the full Q&A and find out the status of Stargate SG-1 Series 5, additional outfits for the 12″ Stargate figures and much, much more!
Ted Foust:
This refers back to the BSG Q&A from 10/17. What is the status of the Lee & Dualla two-pack and BSG Series 3? Where are they in production? Are they still on schedule for 11/12 and 11/19 respectively? Now, I know with the amount of questions you receive, plus running this company, it’s easy for things to get overlooked. But, I have been “hanging out” or “staying awhile”, collecting DST product across multiple lines for several years now and have defended DST on several forums (mostly Star Trek), where other collectors were saying they were stopping collecting your product due to the mounting delays and calling for boycotts. My questions were not answered anywhere else as no one else asked them. I think I deserve a better answer than a flippant, rushed answer as if I’d come late to the party and everyone else had already asked my questions. Thank you.
DSTChuck: Lee & Dualla are on the way and should be in stores the end of December. Razor or BSG 3 should be in stores about a month later. If you’re ever looking for ship dates the best place to find them is on this blog, which we try to update just about every week. As for your concerns with my responses, I am sorry if it seems rude… I just answer these as the whim strikes and I try to just be myself. I assure you no offense was intended and thanks for your support.
Ted Foust:
Please forgive my insistant prying, but the two staffs mentioned for the Daniel/Teal’c two pack: one will obviously be the Ori staff, but I’m curious whether the second will be a staff weapon included with the other Teal’c figures or the training one included previously with the Mitchell figure?
DSTChuck: The second staff is the staff weapon. I’ll see if I can get a picture posted in the gallery for everyone that is curious.
Brian Petersen:
Will any alternate outfits be sold for the 12″ Stargate figures?
DSTChuck: We do not have any plans to sell the outfits individually, but if the response is solid we’d love to make more 12″ figures.
Callum Templeton:
Any Chance of the aliens from First Contact? And could you tell us what accessories Ronon comes with? Thanks.
DSTChuck: Not sure yet on aliens but I don’t think so. Ronan comes with his blaster, GDO, P90, knife and sparring sticks.
Jonathan Quirk:
Are there any plans for future T-shirt variants of SG-1 characters, possibly as case-toppers? You could just repaint a black ops Teal’c or a Desert Combat Carter, for example, at little additional cost.
DSTChuck: We do take into consideration completing each “set” once we’ve started one. So, yes consideration has been given. We’ll just have to see how things work out.
Agent 86:
Dear Sir/Madam, A few weeks ago in your blog/article on the design of the “Anti-Venom” (Marvel Comics) figure, the author mentioned that we would soon be shown a look into the sculpting process of BSG Series 4. Is this “behind the scenes” feature still expected to be provided to BSG fans? Cheers.
DSTChuck: Jean and the folks there are just waiting for all the approvals to be taken care of and then I’ll be sure to harass them to update the blog.
Kevin Thomas:
Now that DST has established a UQS line (SW, IJ and ST), will you be making UQS figures for any of your other licenses? This being me of course, I am wondering about BSG. Thanks for answering my question.
DSTChuck: YES as you can see with Star Trek we’re already expanding the licenses we will be making in 19″
Michael Klaus:
Hallo, I have a question about the Battlestar Galactica Statues. Is there (in future) a limited model of a Cylon Basestar in work? If the answer is yes, which details (scale, …) will it have? Greetings Michael Klaus
DSTChuck: We haven’t forgotten about the Basestars, but nothing is in development at this time.
Scott P:
Dear DST, First off, thank you very much for the free gift you sent. Now for my observation and question: I noticed on some of your BSG figures, you have added a new hip articulation allowing the legs to not only move forward and back but out to the side as well. Will you or would you all consider adding this type of joint for the Star Trek line? I have no problem paying a little extra for a figure if it means a better figure with more “playability”. Thanks, Scott
DSTChuck: The look and feel of the Star Trek figures is already established, so we won’t be adding that joint to that line BUT its something we’re hoping to use on new figures going forward.
Blaine Rodenbaugh: So the diamond select site still has the D’Anna/Boomer date set to last month. Is there still a licensing issue? And would you at least be able to tell us what the accessories are going to be (hoping for a baby Hera). Also, I’ve noticed that the President Adama figure’s body could totally be used as a Baltar, and that the Kendra Shaw body would sure look nice with a Dualla and/or Starbuck head. Any plans of doing different uniforms like the picture you have of Anders in flight suit??? p.s….CAN’T WAIT for the Roslin figure….please please please release these next few lines on time!
DSTChuck: The DST site is NOT correct, D’Anna is still stuck in limbo. We’ve got some new characters to get taken care of and some catch-up, then we’ll see about going back for new versions of characters we’ve done already. Thanks for the ideas though.
Roderick DeHart:
Any chance we will see a figure of Season 4 ‘Blue stripe uniform’ Rodney McKay?
DSTChuck: Sorry but we don’t have that in the plans right now. Rodney is very popular though so you never know.
James White:
Thanks again for taking time for these questions. I have a question this time about the 12″ Stargate figures. Do you plan to release any accessory packs or different uniforms for these figures? It would be nice to have some offworld gear for them.
DSTChuck: NO problem, thanks for taking the time to write in. Right now, we don’t think the line has enough depth to produce something like that, but yes - if the first three figures do we’ll we’ll add more to the line and mix in new accessories as well.
Kurt Borden:
Thank you for the shipping update! I know many fans will not welcome more delays BUT you guys are going out of your way to keep us in the loop and that means a lot. Economic times are tough and we all want our favorite little toy company to rake in the cash so we can rake in new product. So we can be patient…right guys???? On to my question, when can we expect some news about the new wave of SG-1? Maybe you can do an unveiling week like you did for the Minimates. A figure a day? Please, we need an Apophis in this wave. Thanks again
DSTChuck: The ship date log was a big part of what we wanted to accomplish with the new site so I’m glad its been helpful. Still very sorry about the delays, we always have the best intentions when we start a project but sometimes things go wrong. Its been a tough year manufacturing for sure. The new wave of SG1 figures are all done being sculpted and are in for approval, we should have something for you very soon.
Jonathan Quirk:
When do you expect to announce SG-1 wave 5? And do you have a target release period for it yet?!
DSTChuck:I’ll check with marketing but I think the plan is to announce the line up very soon and maybe show pictures around the time series 3 Atlantis ships into stores. Hey be careful I’m in enough trouble for not hitting dates — do we really think it’s a good idea for me to give a date for a project we have not even announced yet?
Jonathan Quirk:
What’s the latest on the D’Anna / Boomer two-pack delays? Can we expect these figures in 2009, or will Boomer be released as a single figure?
DSTChuck: D’Anna is still very much stuck in limbo. If that does not change we’ll find something to do with that Boomer.
Andrew LaRue:
The 12″ line turned out very interesting, and I will likely be buying them soon enough. However, I have a few questions about the line: -Why the lack of battle gear? -Why did Daniel come with a Colt 1911 pistol rather than a Beretta pistol? -Will there be accessory sets? Thanks.
DSTChuck: For our first set we wanted to keep it somewhat simple to keep cost down to be sure we did not over price the first figures in the line and keep fans from trying them.
Andrew LaRue:
I’ve been wondering; with SG-1 ending last year, and Atlantis ending this year, will you be visiting the earlier seasons for future waves?
DSTChuck: With the DVD movies in the works as well as the game and new TV series, we think there is lots of life left in the franchise. (not to mention the huge back log of characters).
Brian Petersen:
1) Awhile back I submitted a question about the long, grey wraith stunners shown with the first wave of Atlantis figures at a show way back. I was wondering if there’s any info you might have about this accessory? I really want to see it with my Wraith figures, so I’m hoping it releases. ![]()
2) Do you keep track of fansites for your Stargate line?
DSTChuck: I’ll check on that for you, we’re suppose to be seeing some more Atlantis samples from the factory next week! I know folks here used to go to Gateworld for news, info etc..
Jonathan Quirk:
Have you run out of Steve the Wraith figures yet, and do you expect to ever run another mail-in Stargate figure offer in the future?
DSTChuck: Nope we still have some Steve’s. I think the mail order figures are lots of fun and we’d love to do them as often as possible.
Ryan Luxford:
You mentioned back in August/September that the announcement of the 5th Wave of SG-1 &/or 4 Wave of Atlantis would be announced soon. 3+ months later still no word. Any idea when that will be made? Will they be bringing back the mail-a-way option?
DSTChuck: The fifth wave is all done being sculpted so I’d expect we’ll announce the line up very soon, but I can say I think lots of fans will be happy with the new characters.
Jonathan Quirk:
Just a few more Stargate questions:
1) DST has mentioned before that you have a, quote, “SUPER SWEET head scan” of Cliff Simon (Baal). Is Baal still on the cards for an upcoming SG-1 wave?
2) Will the late, great Don S. Davis (General Hammond) be immortalised in action figure form? (Possibly in a two-pack with Landry, since both characters could probably use the same body sculpt?)
3) We’ve had Blue Garrison Daniel Jackson as the Atlantis wave 1 casetopper, and Blue Garrison Jack O’Neill will be the Atlantis wave 3 casetopper… can we expect the next casetopper to be Blue Garrison Cam Mitchell?!
DSTChuck:
1) Baal is/has always been a consideration.
2) We’d love to do something with the character at some point.
3) Maybe…
