DSTChuck is back to answer your pressing questions about new licenses, the future of Marvel Select, our Star Wars Ultimate Quarter Scale plans and hope for Transformers fans! Put in your questions now for the next installment and let us know what you’re thinking!
George Collins:
Hey guys, I’m very psyched for the Marvel Select Wolverine figure based on the upcoming movie. With such good quality films done by Marvel Studios this past year, I can’t wait for the upcoming Avengers movie in 2011. Is there any chance we’ll get Marvel Select film versions of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America at some point? Maybe also a Marvel Select Spidey for Spider-man 4? Thanks!
DSTChuck: We’ve been very fortunate to work on products for most of Marvel’s recent movies so we’re hoping our luck continues. I do think Spidey 4 would be a long shot though. Hasbro seems to have that pretty well covered.
Dave S.:
Had a question on the upcoming 1/4 scale Jedi Luke. The images that are seen on your site is that the final sculpt for his head? If it is it is way off and looks nothing like Mark Hamill. I really hope you change the head before it is released because it is a real disappointment. I have the 1/4 scale Darth Maul and besides the torso is very top heavy, I had to wedge a piece of cardboard into the torso to keep him upright which made me sad for the price on this item. Plus the joints are very weak and he will not hold any position so he just stands there on his stand. On the package it says “magnetic”. What parts of magnetic? There are none from what I can tell. I just hate that his lightsaber will not stay together. I think this line could be something worthwhile but only if you beef up the quality control and not rush them out to the store. Dave S.
DSTChuck: To be honest we’ve really had lots of back and forth with Lucas on the Luke heads we’re working on. It’s been difficult to come up with one we both agree is correct. The pictures you have seen are from the approved sculpt, BUT they are just the prototype and changes will occur in production as well as small changes in paint that can affect the look of a figure. We’re going to have a production one ready to show on our Blog in a few months and we’ll of course bring it to shows this summer. By then we think we’ll have one that DST, Lucas, and the fans will really like. Sorry about your Maul, sounds like you received a bad copy. Please contact our customer service dept for a replacement figure!
Frank Rucco: I just picked up the quarter scale Darth Maul at Toys R Us.. I just have to say AWESOME JOB!!!!! It is absolutely beautiful. Great work guys!!!!
DSTChuck: Frank, thanks for the kind words, glad you like it. We know we’re the new kids on the Star Wars block and we’re just doing stuff we know we’d like to own and hopefully as this line gets out into stores it will find its place.
Tom Smith:
Are there plans for a Count Dooku in the Ultimate Quarter Scale Line?
DSTChuck: He is not in the plans for the first 8 or 9 figures BUT we DO want to do him and it will be sooner rather then later.
Tom Smith:
Is the crystal skull accessory in the UQS Mutt Williams going to be tinted blue like the actual prop, or remain colorless as in the photos you’ve released?
DSTChuck: We plan on having a slight tint to it in production.
Paul Rogus:
Now that Marvel Legends is on “hiatus” for 2009, will Marvel Select increase the number of releases? What news can you give us about the “Larger” figures - are they big in physical size or presence in the MU (ie like Wolverine and Spider-man)? Personally I’m hoping for figures of Iron Monger, Titanium Man, Dragon Man, Kree Sentry, Lockjaw, all “larger” figures that would look great in the Marvel Select style. Also do you ever visit other message boards like the FWOOSH, where we have a thread dedicated to how great Marvel Select has been with figures like Thanos, Watcher, Mephisto, and Hulk?
DSTChuck:
We did read about the line taking a break… As much as the lines are related in so much as they are both figures from the Marvel universe, they are not related… Know what I mean? We have already upped our planned output for this line from last year. We were doing 6 per year and for 09, we’re looking at around 8 figures. We’ve had mostly good luck with the larger figures (though Watcher did not do so well) so we’re going to continue to mix them in as the line goes forward.
Michael Maman:
Hello! I was seeing some prototypes for the Brown Xmen Wolverine Marvel Select figure, and it looks fantastic!! I really like the samurai display base. However, the figure seems to be lacking in articulation. Will he feature more once released? Thank you! Mike
DSTChuck: The pictures you have seen are just the hand prototype, no articulation has been cut into it yet. It will have traditional MS articulation.
Rick Eubanks:
I hope you really answer this question DSTChuck! I’m hoping to hear something positive too!
With the success of all of your television lines like Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, and Battlestar Galactica…..have you considered doing even more popular shows, even long ended ones like X-Files, or Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, or Xena? Or better yet, a TV show at its prime, like Lost? Again, I sincerely hope this gets answered, and I sincerely hope you consider these as possible toy lines. Especially X-Files, and Lost!!! Thanks!
DSTChuck: Hey Rick, no problem. I answer every question that comes in but maybe not positively. We have in fact considered all the shows you list but right now we’re not moving forward on any of them. Lost is being taken care of by McFarlane right now.
Jeff Peebles:
Chuck, What up? I would like to know about Transformers, ANYTHING? The blog has not been updated since Sept. 5th 2008. So is the line cancelled? The last bust is due out in a couple months and nothing new has been announced. I am a little worried I am working on catching up on everything that just got recently released but I feel some important characters are being forgotten. I would like to see Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Tracks, Trailbreaker, Red Alert, Inferno, Cyclonus, Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Blaster and his tapes, Hound (is a must) I guess what I am saying is I would like to see the busts continue. Thanks, Jeff
DSTChuck: Hey Jeff — Not much up here, just counting down until the baseball season and E- Street band tour starts! What up with you? DSTJen was the one doing lots of TF bloging and she was on maternity leave but she’s back and already blogging about the new TF items we are working on. We’re keeping an eye on the TF sales to see how much deeper we can go in character selection.
