March 30, 2009 : Ask DST Q&A #31

Check out the answers to your Marvel Select, Star Wars, Back to the Future and Transformers questions as DSTChuck responds to all your latest queries. Plus, Twin Peaks Minimates?

With the third wave of Marvel Select reissues now hitting LCS stores (yay!), I was wondering if there are any plans for a Black Cat reissue? Or is she one of the figures that there are plans to never bring out again. Your answer will depend on if I sell my own, or plunk down $50+ for another one. Thank you and good night!

DSTChuck: I can’t say for sure since we have not planned the next wave of Best Of Marvel Select, BUT I can tell you that she was one of the one’s we considered last time and she almost made it into the case.

Hi I want to know when will be out the Darth Sidious (red suit) ultimate quarter figure , thank you !! Please we want Count Dooku in this excellent line!!!!

DSTChuck: We’re thinking Sidious will be late 2009 or 2010 at this point and I can tell you the Dooku is coming along very well. We have a very nice head sculpt approved at this point so we’re moving along.

HI gang, I noticed on an insert for the newer Marvel Select figure I got, and in the toyfair photos, there was a Kree Armor Captain Marvel figure. Is this figure going to be available, and if so, is there a time frame to look for it. It is a very nice looking figure that would look great next to my other to Captain Marvels. Thanks in advance!

DSTChuck: Yes the Kree Mar-Vell will be in stores this summer and can be ordered in the April issue of Previews. Glad you like them.

Hello! I like the actual line of Marvel Select, especially because the characters have been seen in the recent storylines of the Marvel comicbooks. Will you keep doing “normal size” figures such as Wolverine or Captain Marvel instead of focusing exclusively on larger figures as you previously mentioned it? That would be good to have a mix between normal and big size characters. Do you have any plans to release figures from the current Marvel event “War of Kings” such as Vulcan, Gladiator or Blackbolt? Since I really like Wolverine stuff, do you have in mind to release Daken (Wolverine’s son) or a Weapon-X version of Wolverine? Keep doing amazing sculpts!

DSTChuck: We do a mix of classic characters in classic outfits like the Wolverine as well as current editorial-driven character like Anti-Venom. We DO mix in the larger characters when it makes sense, like when we did Hulk and Red Hulk. Right now I think we’ll be passing on the “War of Kings” storyline.

Hello DST Crew, I just received my Hoth Han Solo and wanted to tell you that you guys have done it again. What an amazing figure. UQS Star Wars is quickly becoming my favorite line to collect. Question: Can we please get a UQS Hoth Luke Skywalker to go with him? Pretty please??? Do you think we will ever see any of the armored figures such as a Stormtrooper or Boba Fett? Thanks and keep them coming.

DSTChuck: OH yea! We have several Luke’s planned and in various stages of development. We’re already working on “armored” characters, but I think it will be 2010 before any of them hit stores. Since there is so much required to get them correct we want to take our time.

Hoth Han Solo’s face sculpt is AMAZING! The detail down to the scar is just mind blowing. I’ve seen other companies attempt a decent Han, but this one really takes the cake. Congrats on a great figure!

DSTChuck: Thanks so much we’re glad you like it. Hoth Han might not be the most popular outfit for Han but honestly we wanted to start with one of the more difficult versions, to show how serious we were.

Um I see you are starting a new Transformers line with resin. Why? I would like to see some more busts added to my collection and I have not see anything new. I see the boxes for Ultra Magnus and Galvatron are done. So what does that mean?

DSTChuck: We’re not going away from what you have been collecting, the Icons line is meant as a supplement. Just like when we did Marvel and we had several types of lines. The Icons line will be truer to the cartoon G1 look. For those of you looking to catch up on our regular bust line, look for Jetfire and Ratchet in stores now with Ultra Magnus and Galvatron shipping very soon!

I’m really excited about the DST light up Back To The Future DeLorean replicas shown at ToyFair. I have a couple of questions about them. First off, they appear to be made from the Sun Star 1/18 molds. BTTF.com mentioned that there will be some updates to some of the ‘inaccuracies’ seen on these. Wondering if that will include the wiring that wraps all the way around the rear wheel well (should go up into the rear deck) and the fact that there should be an ‘armature’ on the sides of BOTH exhaust vents at the back, not just one. These 2 inaccuracies always especially bothered me about the Sun Star. Also, will we see the BTTF III whitewall and railroad versions as well? That would be GREAT to have all 4 versions from each of the films. Thanks!

DSTChuck: To be honest I think the base was several kits and designs BUT what you saw was not final and we’re consulting with several BTTF experts to make sure these are as accurate as possible.

Hi, Have you guys ever considered trying to produce any Twin Peaks merchandise? Action figures would be top of my list, but even statues or props or anything might be fun. Thanks!

DSTChuck: I have to say I’ve never considered that property.

I noticed at Toy Fair you had two 1:18 BTTF DeLoreans on display, one for the first movie and one for the second movie. This has me curious about two things:
1. Will there be an electronic 1:18 DeLorean for the third movie with 1955 time-travel modifications (such as white wall tires)?
2. Since you are also making merchandise for Ghostbusters, will you be making 1:18 versions of the Ecto-1?

DSTChuck: We HOPE to do three versions of the DeLorean. As for the Ecto-1 yes of course we’d LOVE to make one but we have to see what Sony thinks about that… Right now we’ve got our hands full with the GB stuff we have coming out this year.
