March 21, 2009 : Cylon Identification Guide

There’s gotta be some kinda way outta here, said the joker to the thief. There’s too much confusion! I can’t get no relief! Well, whether you’re part of the Final Five or not we’ve got the down-low on each and every Cylon Centurion action figure released to date - plus some tantalizing hints at what’s to come! So fire up your FTL and explore the world of Battlestar Galactica Cylon Centurions!

Cylon Centurion - The standard version of the Cylon Centurion was included in our second series of Battlestar Galactica action figures along with Starbuck and Kat. It features three sets of interchangeable hands, two sets of removable arm cannons and an impressive 17 points of articulation. If you’re looking for the perfect Cylon Centurion to display with your Battlestar Galactica collection, this is the one you’re looking for. Check your local comic book store, online toy vendor or the dreaded secondary market for this one though, because our stockpiles of this figure are officially as exhausted as our Tylium supplies.

Downloaded Cylon Centurion - Similar to the standard Cylon, this extremely limited promotional version was released at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con. Based on the mind-blowing second season episode “Downloaded,” it sports a brand new super-shiny exterior depicting the non-combat Cylons seen planting trees on Cylon-Occupied Caprica. These were limited to only 500 pieces, so the secondary market will be just about the only place in the universe you can find these if you didn’t attend our Battlestar-themed SDCC party.

Valley of Darkness Cylon - What’s more terrifying than a group of Cylon Centurions boarding your ship and savagely terrorizing your crew in a quest to vent all your oxygen into space? Nothing! Released as our San Diego Comic Con exclusive in 2007, this bloody-handprint emblazoned Cylon should be a little easier to find than his long-lost “Downloaded” cousin.

New Caprica Cylon Centurion - When the Cylons took over New Caprica and began their brutal occupation it was obvious that a change was in order. Cue the New Caprica Cylon Centurions! Constructed using native resources and tasked with controlling the human population, this model possesses a noticeably darker color yet remains just as deadly as the standard Cylon Centurion. These were exclusively available from Think Geek before they were all snatched up by Battlestar Galactica fans.

Civil War Cylon Centurion - Another version of the core Cylon Centurion was released exclusively into Toys R Us stores late last year, the aptly-named Civil War Cylon Centurion. When the Cylons start fighting amongst themselves you know it’s only going to be a matter of time before the bullets start flying… With added battle damage paint this Cylon depicts the Baseship-occupying forces of Cavill’s faction bent on universal conquest. If you missed these the first time around then keep your eyes on Toys R Us shelves…

Razor Cylon Centurion Pilot - First glimpsed in the Battlestar Galactica: Razor movie, the retro-inspired Cylon Pilots aren’t quite as sophisticated as their modern “evolved” counterparts. But still, these models do have their uses. Most were used as Cylon Raider pilots in the first Cylon War, however some models seem to have survived in deep space by protecting the first successful Hybrid. Part of the third series of BSG action figures along with Kendra Shaw and “Husker” Adama, you can find the Razor Cylon Pilot in comic book and specialty stores now.

Razor Cylon Centurion Warrior - Unlike the standard retro Cylon Pilots, these Cylon Warriors were built for hand-to-hand combat in high-risk combat zones. With upgraded ammo, weapons and armor plating they are definitely not a force to be taken lightly. Exclusively available from Toy Rocket, we even included the small ragdoll accessory dropped by Admiral Cain’s younger sister during the first Cylon War. Now how’s THAT for sensitivity?!

Stealth Cylon Centurion - When the Cylons need quick results there’s no one better to turn to than the Stealth Cylon Centurions. Constructed with refractive armor and unique poly-alloy shielding to avoid detection, this model is easily among the most dangerous to the survival of mankind. Only available at the 2009 New York Comic Con, there were less than 1,000 of these two-tone black Stealth Cylons produced. If you look closely enough at the DVD’s you just might be able to spot one of these surreptitious scoundrels in the background.

Battle Damaged Cylon Centurion Two-Pack - What’s better than one half-destroyed Cylon? Two of them! Though they’ve definitely seen better days, each Cylon in this set sports all-new sculpted battle damage and includes the same additional hands and gun cannons as the regular Cylons. Look for these dented -up baddies this April, exclusively available through Action Figure Xpress.

Razor Cylon Centurion Warrior Commander - Similar to the standard Warrior model, the Warrior Commanders serve as field commanders in high-risk confrontations. With their advanced tactical algorithms and on-the-fly combat assessment subroutines, even the most brilliant human tactician wouldn’t stand a chance against a properly armed and coordinated Cylon assault led by these guys. Look for these in Toys R Us stores this spring and get your Cylon army back up to speed!

Battle Damaged Razor Cylon Centurion Pilot - This modified version of the standard Razor Cylon Pilot model features a rugged and battle damaged Centurion ready to take revenge on the nearest human forces. Augment your Cylon forces with this visually distinct Toys R Us exclusive later this spring and show those organics who’s boss!

What does the future hold? Some advance scouts have reported Cylon Centurions equipped with Mortar Packs for anti-aircraft missions, special models which guard the Cylon Resurrection Hub and even a brand new model unlike anything seen in the last 2,000 years. Only time will tell, but remember that all this has happened before and all this will happen again…
