April 13, 2009 : AskDST Q&A #33

Join DSTChuck and get answers to your pressing Minimates questions! In this installment we discuss new license possibilities, Toys R Us exclusives and UK distribution so buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Doug Wolford:
Can we get a boxset/wave of Venom, Carnage, Anti-Venom, Toxin, Riot, Agony, Lasher, Scream and Phage?

DSTChuck: We do not have a box set of those villains planned and we pretty much keep it to 4 packs now for the box sets.

Brandon Giles:
Hi Chuck, any chances we could get Kirk and Spock in their gangster attire from “A Piece of the Action” in Minimate form. I’d certainly love to see Kirk take on the Godfather!

DSTChuck: Brandon those were planned at one time and I do think they would make a GREAT two pack so you never know.

Brandon Giles:
Hello Chuck, I was just brainstorming about something I would love to see represented with Minimates figures. The old Marvel Conan:The Barbarian comic book came to mind. Who would we have to plead with to make that happen? I know Dark Horse comics is currently publishing a monthly Conan comic. They are also reprinting all the old Marvel books in trade paperbacks. I’d really love to see Conan, Belit, Red Sonja and a multitude of other Conan characters and monsters done in the Minimate format!

DSTChuck: Hello again, Conan and Red Sonja are different licenses and currently we have neither so that’s just something we would have to consider for the future.

Roger Smith:
I saw the Toys R Us Marvel Wave 2 Minimates sets (phew, a mouthfull) on your blog. I am really interested in the set with Green Goblin and Spider-Man. Is there an ETA on this set? Thanks in advance, Roger .

DSTChuck: Roger it’s hard to say with TRU because they have stores all around the country but most should have them by now so stop in and check the toy isle.

Brian Malnati:
Is it possible for Minimate lines from the Aliens, Robocop and Predator movies to be made or do those licenses belong to other companies? If they are possible, how likely is it that they will be made? I would love to add the marines from Aliens and Arnold’s unit from Predator to my Minimate collection.

DSTChuck: At one point yes the Alien and Predator lines were held by someone else (I know because we asked) but I am not sure the current status. Robocop is currently not being licensed because they are thinking about doing a new movie. All three of these properties would be great for MM!

Sean Jiranek:
Any chance of getting any reliable distribution for Minimates in the UK? I missed the Star Trek wave 3 due to Forbidden Planet lying that they would get them and haven’t seen them in any stores. Also haven’t seen the Mirror Mirror set or the Punisher War Zone figures and I know that I’ll never see the Ghostbusters ones short of rip off ebay prices…

DSTChuck: I am sorry due to the high cost of testing and low sales Minimates have had in the UK in the past, we currently only ship assortments when the buyer decides to pay for testing - as a result the distribution is very erratic.

Matt MacNabb:
Hello, I run GBCollector.com. I have worked with AA in the past, mostly with Adam Unger when he was with you, on the Dc C3 minimates toyline. I would like to make contact regarding the new Ghostbusters line for GbCollector.com and the Terminator line for Toylegion.com. I look foward to hearing from you!

DSTChuck: I have sent your information over to the guys in Marketing.
