April 27, 2009 : AskDST Q&A #35
DSTChuck has pried himself away from his Springsteen albums long enough to answer your questions, this week focusing on a collection of licenses ranging from Indiana Jones to Twin Peaks! So check out the full list of questions and find out what the future holds for Laura Palmer fans everywhere.
Oh, and the log did it.
Tom Smith:
I’ve noticed that the Ultimate Quarter Scale Mutt Williams has disappeared from many pre-order listings, including the Diamond Select website. Are we to assume that it’s been cancelled, or is it being rescheduled for a later date?
DSTChuck: Tom I am sorry to say that for now Mutt is canceled, there does not seem to be enough interest in the character for us to continue development. We could of course put him on the schedule at a later date, if interest picks up.
Tom Smith:
If the Ultimate Quarter Scale Mutt Williams is cancelled, would you consider doing a older Indy from Crystal Skull in the UQS line? You could use the skull accessory from the Mutt figure.
DSTChuck: YES that is very possible as long as sales for Indy stay strong.
Conor Brosnahan:
Hi there! Just a quick Indy question! When can we hear news on the next UQS Indy figure? I’m holding out on the first one to get the bag with the 2nd, and was wondering which look it’ll be based on.
DSTChuck: We will be placing the next Indy figure in the June issue of Previews.
Martin Radulovich:
I just got the Darth Maul Ultimate Quarter Scale, and need to know how the duel-Lightsaber is put together let me know thank you
DSTChuck: There are two versions of the lightsaber - one is with just magnets and the other comes with a pair of small circular pieces that can be added on and the pieces lock the saber into one. If you’re still having trouble, please contact customer service for a replacement.
Tom Smith:
I’m impressed with your Indiana Jones Golden Idol and Ark banks. Any chance of a Sankara Stone or Crystal Skull bank in the future?
DSTChuck: We’d love to keep doing Indy replica banks, not sure if we can do the skull though since it would have to be clear and that might look odd once the money is in it, but you never know!
Mike Hebert:
Your company takes other companies’ ideas and make the prototype for them so the action figure and/or statue can be made into a toy? How much is it to create an action figure? How long does the process take to complete the prototype ?
DSTChuck: Mike I think you are a little bit mistaken. We take a license from a property holder and make products we sell to retailers who in turn sell to fans and collectors. We do not take ideas from the outside to market. However from solid idea to on shelf is a process that takes about 9 months.
Charles H:
Will the BttF DeLorean have the flight mode?
DSTChuck: Yes we will be making a version from the end of BTTF 1 or BTTF 2 with the wheels that folds in BUT it will not actually fly.
Jonathan Baker:
Dear Art Asylum, I just love what you’ve done with your website. It looks much better that the old one.
DSTChuck: Hey Jon thanks so much I’ll let everyone know. Stick around and send some questions in for us!
Steven Denton:
Hi Chuck, is there any way at all that you could address the Buffy Judge statue cancellation rumors, has it been cancelled? Thanks so much!
DSTChuck: YES due to very low orders the Buffy Judge statue has been cancelled.
Andrew Rybarczyk:
How does DST choose the companies that it gives exclusives to? In general many companies like New Force are just top notch. On the other hand companies like Toy Rocket are dismal at customer service. I think it just looks bad on DST to in effect support companies that don’t have the same high standards of customer service that you do! The people in your department are just top notch!
DSTChuck: Andrew, we do work in concert with our sales staff to try and find good trade partners that will service the fans and the properties correctly. That’s why we call them our partners. IF you or anyone else is having trouble with one of our partners just let our CS folks know and we will try to help get to the bottom of the issue for you. Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding.
Agent 86 :
Dear DST, Any chance of action figures based on one of the few “new” TV properties - the syndicated show “Legend of the Seeker”? Thanks.
DSTChuck: We have no plans right now to make product from that property. Sorry.
DSTMatt: I just downloaded the first episode, so if I think it’s any good I’ll let Chuck know.
Robert Yates:
A follow up to my Twin Peaks question a few weeks ago. You stated that you have not considered this property but I guess my next question would be: Would you? I mean I didn’t specifically ask about mini-mates but that is an interesting idea for sure! I see there is at least a small amount of internet chatter out there about the lack of Twin Peaks products given that it was a cult phenomenon way back when, continues to have a fan base today and the Gold Set was recently released, and I have seen it appear on recommended viewing lists in various newspapers and magazines. What would it take to get you guys to look at it seriously? And hopefully for ACTION FIGURE consideration!!!
Is the property considered too old or obscure now? What about a single Killer Bob or Agent Cooper figure or statue?
DSTChuck: I don’t think we’ve seen enough evidence in out travels of enough support for Twin Peaks product to warrant a license, but we’ll keep our eyes open.
Ashley Wilbanks:
Whatever happened to the Optimus Prime Icons bust? It was mentioned in February that paint masters were done but, no news since then… Is it still on the table or on hold?
DSTChuck: We’re just working though the approval process for both Optimus and Megatron. With these being the first in the Transformer Icons bust line, Hasbro wants to be sure they are just right.
