August 30, 2009 : R2 Blooper Reel

r2

True confession time again - A few people have been wondering why the R2-D2 figure bank seemed to be roughly 6″ while I’ve been telling you that it is 1/4 scale.  Well, to be honest, there was a teeny tiny miscommunication when we were ordering materials.  Some dimensions got crossed and lost, and no one knew anything was awry until I opened a very small box and saw a very small casting.  These things aren’t cheap, so I made the call to get as far into development as possible and hopefully only need one replacement casting for the factory.  To assure everyone that all is well, I’ve included a picture of the piece you have all been seeing (in catalogs and at shows) standing in the shadow of the sculpt that is going to the factory.

August 29, 2009 : Odd, He Doesn’t Look Like Kenny Baker

r2paint

Here we have the approved paint for the R2-D2 figure bank (what I am unofficially calling the “Quarter Scale R2″).  Personally, the droids were some of my least favorite characters, but I have to admit that Eddie really did a great job on this little fella.

August 28, 2009 : R2-D2 Comes to the Roto World

r2sculpt

Here is the sculpt for the R2-D2 figure bank.  Based on Lucas digital data and slightly modified to fit the rotocast process, this little guy is not so little.  His finished height should be a little under 11″, making him a perfect visual fit on the shelf where you keep your Ultimate Quarter Scale action figures.

August 27, 2009 : A Long Time Coming…

dawn-pvc-sculpt

When Joe Linsner started Linsner.com, the first item released was the “Back In Black” print.  It is by far my favorite piece of artwork from Joe, so it was a lock for DST’s new line of PVC statues.  It probably should have come out before “School’s Out” but I’ve got this weakness for plaid and well, you understand.  Anyway, the minute Sam was free to start on another project for me, I gave him Back In Black.  Here is a work-in-progress look.

August 26, 2009 : Guess Who’s Back - Back in Black

dawn-paint

For your viewing pleasure I bring you Kat’s painted casting of the Dawn: Back In Black PVC statue.  I asked her to make sure the piece maintained the maturity and sexiness of the original art and she came through with flying colors (pardon the awful pun).

August 24, 2009 : AskDST #51 - Star Trek Edition

Plenty of Star Trek discussion to scan this week, as DSTChuck answers your pressing Star Trek questions.  Will we see 3 3/4 inch figures in Star Trek’s future?  What features will be included with the upcoming Wrath of Khan style Phaser?  How about more info on that upcoming Klingon ship?  Answers to all of these questions are just a click away! August 22, 2009 : Marvel Select Sabretooth - Kickin it Old Style!

The very very first appearance, Sabretooth had a lovely fur lined orange outfit! (Closely resembling recent prison murderer outfits… coincidence? I think NOT!)
