August 17, 2009 : AskDST #50 - Marvel & Misc Edition
We’re back from our summer conventions and we must have answered all of your questions in person because it’s a short list this week! I’m sure now that we’ve pointed that out you’ll all go rushing to the AskDST section and flood us with inquiries though - it never fails. Check out DSTChuck’s answers to your Transformers, 24, HBO, Buffy and Marvel Select questions though - you never know what you might find!
Kevin Thomas:
Hello again, I try to avoid this type of question but has DST/AA ever looked into doing any HBO products. I know that they have a lot of shows where it would be hard to make products for, but for a series like True Blood, Sopranos or even Carnivale, there are decent enough characters to work with. Even an HBO series of minimates box sets would be neat. Anyway, my question is just have you ever looked into doing any HBO stuff?
DSTChuck: Oh yea, HBO shows are fantastic and we did speak with them a number of years ago. There is nothing we’ve been able to work out yet — but never say never.
Ben Maxwell:
Seeing as how Star Trek has stepped into the twilight years for you guys, and as sad as it might be to see the end of the production run. I might as well turn my hopes onto something else. You guys did a great job with the Star Trek line (even though recently we’ve been Kirk’d and Spock’d to death) I thought that a lot of the figures were excellent. Seeing as how you have done 24 minimates, I would love to see you guys work on a set of 7 inch, 24 series action figures. You could release 4 regular figures in a wave, with a special two pack.
I’ve only watched up until season six so far… and this show rocks.Would love to see your special touches put into these figures.
DSTChuck: AS recently as a couple years ago McFarlane toys made 7′ figures for 24. I am not sure if they still hold the license but I’m don’t think the figures sold that great for them.
Sam Ford:
Hey yall! Thanks for taking the time to talk with us! Hasbro really left Xevoz fans in a lurch by just walking away. I’m wondering, now that yall own Battle Beasts (Awesome! Be smart with marketing!) can yall acquire other lines like Xevoz? Or were yall about to buy BB because it was imported and not in house? And, if you can’t get Xevoz, how about a line of assembley action figures called Zovex that just happens to fit a competitor’s license? Either would be awesome!
I have an idea for a toy line of in-scale (IDEA EDITED) Do you know anyone who could give me advise? Thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
DSTChuck: Sam I have to be honest I don’t think we’ve ever even looked into Xevoz. As for the toy line idea you emailed about, I think your best be is trying toy companies VIA their web sites but honestly I think you have a rough road ahead of you — good luck.
June Kramer:
are you planning on producing more buffy figures? also i noticed that one of the legs of my deanna troi action figure has broken off has this happened to other costumers or are the legs not really meant for bending? is it also possible to see if you guys could make action figures from the tv shows Buck Rogers in the 25th century or Macgyver? that would be so cool!!!
DSTChuck: Right now Buffy and Angel are on hold, they are not in active development but we’re not saying we’re never going to make more figures. I’m not sure what happened to your Troi legs but no the figures are not meant for bending, they should be posed using the joints (articulation) that’s already designed into them. If you follow that, they are tested for pressure, and repeated use, and should hold up pretty well.
Ben Vlaemynck:
Hi, I have a question about the Transformers busts.
It’s really unclear to both me and other fans whether or not the “Icons” line is going to replace the line you had going. We know there’s still the SDCC Megatron and Jetfire to look forward to. But we fear that after that, the line that we have collected and loved will end.
I think you’ve been doing a great job with these busts so far and would hate to see that end.
DSTChuck: We are still working on the larger line of bust but, based on sales at the end we think we’re pretty close to the end of the line. There are still a few more we’d like to get done, so we’ll see.
Paul Rogus:
Dear DST Chuck -
Great to see you at SDCC! So any chance we’ll see a Ch’od variant of the awesome Abomination? I can’t think of any others that make sense. And please leak us sore loser Marvel Legends fans some news of some more awesome Marvel Selects! Would love to see comic book versions of the Iron Monger, classic Titanium Man or Crimson Dynamo! Classic Ultron at the gates of Avengers mansion with a demolished Vision would sell, sell, sell. Of Course Lockjaw with Medusa or Crystal could work now that Lockjaw had a mini series. Keep making great stuff. Thanks Diamond Select!!
DSTChuck: Right now we have no variant plans for Abominaton - as for what’s next? I think there is some sort of movie coming up that just cries for some 7″ scale figures! Something about a guy who dies while swimming?
Andre Go:
There’re a plan to release a Colossus and Kitty Pride from Age of Apocalipse for the Diamond Marvel Select line? And plans to release Blink, Magneto, Rogue, Wolverine and Jean too? Thank you.
DSTChuck: Right now we have no plans to do AOA figures in the line but that could very easily change.
