spideyheader
If you swung by the Diamond Select Toys booth at New York Comic-Con this past weekend, you were treated to a sneak peek at an upcoming Marvel Select figure: DST’s rendering of native New Yorker the Amazing Spider-Man, from the upcoming movie starring Andrew Garfield! Standing 7 inches tall with 16 points of articulation, Spidey comes with an alternate set of hands and a display base made up to look like a New York City building facade. Check out the gallery below, and look for Spidey (and another yet-to-be-revealed figure) to hit stores next summer, shortly before ASM’s premiere!

October 18, 2011 : Calico Jack’s Pirate Raiders Make their Mini-mation Debut!

piratescreen1
Minimates may be little, but they’re big on action. Don’t believe us? Making its debut at the Minimates panel at the New York Comic-Con this past weekend, the newest “Mini-mation” from Diamond Select Toys spotlights their popular pirate-themed Minimates line, Calico Jack’s Pirate Raiders! The fist episode, which runs a little over two minutes long, is animated using actual Minimates toys and an exacting stop-motion process. More episodes of Pirate Raiders are forthcoming, as are new adventures of the MAX team, Diamond Select’s rescue-themed Minimates line.

For those who don’t know about Calico Jack’s Pirate Raiders, here’s a quick history lesson: “The time is the early 18th century, an era of both magic and science, and the golden age of the Pirate Raiders! Pirate Calico Jack and pirate hunter Jonathan Barnet have teamed up to protect the seas from pirates, and to protect Jack from the supernatural evil of Captain Charles Vanes and his undying crew! Standing two inches tall with 14 points of articulation in every figure, this new line of interchangeable Minimates mini-figures and ships is fun for kids of all ages!”

October 11, 2011 : Femme Fatales Bo Peep: From Sheep Herder to Wolf-Killer

bopeephed

Diamond Select Toys loves the ladies. Specifically, they love the strong women who make up their Femme Fatales statue line, and they’ve had so much fun crafting 9-inch PVC versions of some of comicdom’s all-stars (Dawn, Darkchylde, Tarot) that they’ve gone a step further and created their own! Dark beauties Alice, Little Red, Snow White, Anne Bonny and Medusa have all been at least partially inspired by popular and historical renderings, but whenever a character has needed some more extensive conceptual work, DST has called in their in-house artist, Art Asylum inmate Uriel Caton. Uriel already handles much of DST’s Minimate design work, but he’s also been behind a handful of Femme Fatale designs, including DST’s latest, so we sat down with him to see how he found the concept for Little Bo Peep.
