Legend has it that any man who laid his eyes upon Medusa would promptly be turned to stone, but a lesser-known legend says that one man has been in her presence without being subjected to that terrible fate. That man was the pirate Calico Jack (of Pirate Raiders fame, of course), but now you can join him, thanks to Diamond Select Toys! 2001 is a special number. It’s the year the original Halo game, Combat Evolved, first graced our Xboxes, but it’s also the number of “likes” Diamond Select Toys recently passed on Facebook! And just as Microsoft recently re-released Combat Evolved in an updated anniversary edition, we wanted to celebrate the number 2001 in our own way. So we’re giving away a copy of the new game, Halo: Combat Evolved… plus a set of Halo Minimates Series 1 prototypes! This Halo two-pack and four-pack come in preliminary mock-up packaging, with unpainted test-shots in the trays, and we’ll even throw in a mocked-up test package of the Warthog boxed set — which actually contains a production-model Minimates Warthog with driver! This Sunday, a new episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time airs, featuring the modern-day adventures of our favorite fairy tales. Oddly enough, Diamond Select Toys has also thought about what Little Red Riding Hood might look like today — in fact, they sculpted it, and released her earlier this year in their Femme Fatales line of statues! The street-wise and wolf-wary Little Red is available now through Diamond’s Previews catalog, so look her up online or ask for her at your local comic shop. Coming in February 2012 is Snow White, wielding the scissors she used in “Snow White and Rose Red,” and following her in April is a more medieval take on Bo Peep, not so little any more and brandishing an axe to dispatch any wayward wolves. Fans have been waiting to hear which Marvel luminaries would be the next to bow in Diamond Select Toys’ 7-inch scale Marvel Select action figure line. Although they aren’t yet allowed to show them in their entirety, DST is proud to announce that the next two figures will be Hawkeye and Hulk, from Joss Whedon’s upcoming Avengers movie! Sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios, the figures feature the likenesses of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo in his computer-generated Hulk persona. Each figure will have 16 points of articulation, and while Hawkeye comes with a bow, arrows and a detailed display base, the Hulk stands a full 8 inches tall, taking up every inch of his packaging all by himself! Stay tuned and we’ll reveal the full figures as soon as our SHIELD clearance comes through!

This year may be the tenth anniversary of Halo, but next year is the tenth anniversary of Minimates, and we’re kicking off the year with a flashback line of Halo Minimates to celebrate the recent release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary! The big-screen adventures of Thor and Captain America may be gone from theaters and released on DVD, but the anticipation for their return in the Avengers movie is already palpable.
