Robert Kirkman, creator and writer of Image/Skybound’s hit comic, The Walking Dead, and writer/Executive Producer on the international hit television show based upon it, has joined forces with Maryland-based Diamond Select Toys. DST has a 13-year-long history of producing quality toys and collectibles, many based on established comic book and horror properties, and is happy to be able to bring the book’s intense characters and gruesome zombies to three-dimensional life as a line of Minimates and figural banks.

Everyone already knows that Minimates make great stocking stuffers, but what if you have a lot of Minimates, and want a fun new way to show them off to your friends and relations? Well, we’ve got an idea — why not trim the tree with them? Due to the interchangeability of Minimates, it’s actually pretty easy. Here’s how you do it:

1. Remove the Minimate’s head.
2. Clip the loop end of an ornament hook onto the exposed neck peg. (In a pinch, you can also unfold a paper clip into an S shape, and wrap the smaller end around the peg.)
3. Place the head back on, as well as the Minimate’s hat or helmet.
4. Bend the hook/clip upwards, so the hook can be seen over the Minimate’s head.
5. Place on tree.
6. Repeat.

At about $7 for a pack of two, that’s cheaper than most ornaments, and you can show your love of Marvel Comics and movies, Capcom games, Halo, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Universal Monsters, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, pirates, fireman, policemen, SCUBA diving and much more! Diamond Select Toys has a long tradition of giving out free Minimates at their convention appearances, and this year’s New York Comic-Con will be no different. However, since it’s only a couple of weeks before Halloween, we decided to make this year’s giveaway extra-spooky. The free Minimate will be from our upcoming Maximum Zombies Minimates line, and will be a Zombie Civilian in a sealed bag. Giveaways will happen at our booth (#338) starting at 10:00 AM on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, WHILE SUPPLIES LAST — there will only be a limited number given out each day. (Note: Giveaways will NOT occur at noon, as they have in the past.) It’s first come, first served, so you will want to make our booth your first stop of the day, and pick up the exclusive Maximum Zombies two-pack (seen here backing up the Zombie Civilian) while you’re in the neighborhood! Diamond Select Toys likes to think of its convention appearances as one long goodwill tour of America, bringing sneak peeks of its products and new, exclusive toys to different parts of the country. And this year’s journey, from Chicago’s C2E2 to San Diego’s Comic-Con, is now coming to an end in New York City, at the 2011 New York Comic-Con! Taking place at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan from October 13-16, the convention is the East Coast’s biggest pop-culture gathering, and in addition to our famous Minimates panel (2:45 on Saturday, in Room 1A15), this year will be the home to four very cool exclusive DST products, including the first offerings from a brand new line of Minimates!
