April 4, 2012 : The Best of Marvel Minimates: You Wanted the Best, You Got the Best!

boheader

When Diamond Select Toys and Diamond Comic Distributors teamed up to create a wave of Marvel Minimates, they knew they wanted one that would represent the high quality and all-star line-up of the Marvel Minimates line. So they picked eight of their most popular characters and set out to make the quintessential versions of each. The results? Quite possibly one of the best Marvel assortments in recent memory, with some of the most iconic interpretations of each character that collectors have seen. Wolverine, Sabretooth, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Thing, Spider-Man and Green Goblin have never looked better, and they’re the perfect place to start your Minimates collection — as well as pick up that perfect figure to finish your Minimates team! Check out the pictures in our gallery, and ask for them at your local comic shop!

April 3, 2012 : New Photos of Marvel Minimates Series 43 Tell the Saga of Jean DeWolff!

jeandewolffheader

The record-setting 43rd Series of Marvel Minimates is in comic shops and specialty stores now, and if you haven’t picked them up, you’re missing out! New figures of black-costume Spider-Man, Daredevil, J. Jonah Jameson and the classic SHIELD agent make this a must-have assortment for any Marvel fan. Plus, this wave of 2-inch mini-figures is the first toy line to tackle the famous “Jean DeWolff” storyline from the pages of Spectacular Spider-Man, which means it includes some characters who have never been made as toys before! Police detective Jean DeWolff is one of them, with her 1940s fashion sense and an alternate badge hand, while the other is the murderous Sin-Eater, shotgun at the ready. The Sin-Eater also comes with a removable mask and two interchangeable heads with hair pieces, so you can reveal your tiny assassin to be the copycat killer or the real McCoy! March 30, 2012 : Amazing Spider-Man Busts and Statues Coming from DST!

asmheader1

Diamond Select Toys has been out of the Marvel statue game for a little while, but at one point they were slowly documenting every corner of the Marvel Universe, and one of the crown jewels in the line was their assortment of Spider-Man 3 busts and statues. Since they had so much fun working on the movie version of Ol’ Web-Head last time, they decided to get back into the game for the new movie, The Amazing Spider-Man! There are four busts and one mini-statue in the works, and they’re all designed by Gentle Giant Studios, based on digital data from the movie. Designed to be displayed individually or as a group, all of the busts stand 9-10 inches tall (The Lizard is enormous) and feature character-specific patterning on their bases; the battle-damaged Spider-Man bust even comes with interchangeable masked and unmasked heads, as well as an interchangeable left hand! The statue is slightly smaller, at 8 inches, and shows Spidey perched on the translucent wall of a New York City skyscraper. Pre-order yours today online or at your local comic shop, and look for them to arrive this June!

Pre-order them at your local comic shop or your favorite online retailer! You can find your nearest comic shop at comicshoplocator.com! And get regular DST updates on Facebook and Twitter!

March 27, 2012 : Star Trek Retro Cloth Action Figure to Guest-Star on The Big Bang Theory!

spockheader

Classic Star Trek fans rejoice! Leonard Nimoy will reprise his role as Mr. Spock on this Thursday’s episode of The Big Bang Theory — but he won’t be playing the role by himself. Instead, Nimoy will lend his voice to an 8-inch, cloth costumed Mr. Spock figure from Diamond Select Toys’ Star Trek Retro Cloth action figure line! An exact replica of the classic 1970s Mego figure (faithfully executed for Diamond Select by the designers at EMCE Toys), Mr. Spock has a conversation with Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) in a dream, and convinces Sheldon to open up a rare, mint-in-box Teleporter Playset (released in the U.K. by Palitoy in 1975). Check out the clip below!

The episode airs Thursday, March 29th at 8:00 pm (7:00 Central time) on CBS. For those of you looking to have your own personal conversation with Mr. Spock, the figure is sold out, but a Mirror Universe version of Spock will be available later this year in the Retro Cloth line, along with Mirror Kirk, Captain Picard and a Borg!

March 26, 2012 : DST Announces New Line of Universal Monsters Bust Banks!

umbankheader

Get your money out of that dusty vault and shine it up nice, because Diamond Select Toys has a new place to keep your cash! Spinning out of DST’s successful line of Star Wars bust banks comes the all-new Universal Monsters series! The most famous monster of all, Frankenstein’s Monster, will kick off this new line of 8-inch vinyl banks — from the front it just looks like a high-quality bust, but turn it around and there’s a slot to stick your change in! Nobody will want to raid your savings when they’re safe inside this resurrected giant! And the second release in the new line was a no-brainer: after all, if you were going to make a bust featuring highly detailed sculpts and paint, what monster would you want to see done right? The Creature from the Black Lagoon, of course! The scaly mer-monster has never looked better than in this detailed bank, and if you turn him around you can insert your loose change in a slot behind his gills. He’s the next evolution in banks! Look for both Frankenstein and the Creature to hit comic shops and specialty stores this September!

c2e2header

The Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) runs from April 13-15 this year, and once again Diamond Select Toys (DST) will be in attendance! And since it’s also the 10th anniversary of Minimates, they’ve got some great events planned!

First off, Saturday afternoon will bring a special 10th anniversary Minimates panel, focusing on the coming year. From Marvel’s Avengers to the Walking Dead to Battle Beasts, Diamond Select Toys representatives will share info about DST’s upcoming lines, debut the next stop-motion animated Pirate Raiders movie and give away cool prizes! (1:30 -2:30 PM; Room N427bc)

Second of all, there will be a sweet exclusive figure for sale — our Femme Fatales statue of Lady Death will be made available in an “Alive” version, featuring the legendary comics character when she was brought back to life for a brief time! The 9-inch PVC statue will cost $45, and is strictly limited to 100 pieces. (First come first served, DST Booth, #311)

Third of all, there will be a top-secret Minimates giveaway every day when the show opens! Go to the DST booth first thing when you arrive, because these will go fast, and once they’re gone, they’re gone! There will even be a certain special something given out with each Minimate, but you’ll have to show up to find out what it is! Plus: Free Minimimate posters, a different one every day! (First come first served, DST Booth, #311)

msstormheader

There’s a Storm coming! No, I’m not forecasting the weather, I’m telling you about the next figure in the 7-inch-scale Marvel Select line! Storm will be joining the ranks of the Danger Room X-Men series, which means her base will connect with those of Cyclops and Gambit. Sculpted by Sam Greenwell and painted by Jason Wires, look for her later in 2012, and be on the lookout for a rare variant featuring a more civilian hair style.

: Ruffalo Smash! The New Marvel Select Hulk Figure is a Green-Blooded Avenger

hulkheader2

The role of the Hulk has had more turnovers lately than Sara Lee. …Really? Who writes these jokes? Oh yeah, me. This time around, Bruce Banner will be played by Mark Ruffalo, and Gentle Giant and Jason Wires have created a figure for the Marvel Select line that features the Avengers movie character in his “annoyed” state. And if you’ve collected our previous Hulk releases, you know that this thing really is a monster, one that will tower over your other Avengers.
