December 16, 2011 : The First Full Assortment of Alice: Madness Returns Select Figures, Revealed!

alicefigures1

As revealed yesterday on Kotaku.com, Diamond Select Toys is heading down the rabbit hole! Eleven years after her first adventure, American McGee’s Alice is back in Wonderland, looking for the villain who has corrupted the realm once again, and this time Diamond Select Toys is there to capture the game’s fiendish designs! Based on the game American McGee’s Alice: Madness Returns from EA and Spicy Horse, this assortment of 7-inch-scale figures includes Alice, the Cheshire Cat and a Card Guard, and each figure is fully articulated and comes in oversized collector packaging. All figures are in scale to each other, and Alice comes with her Vorpal blade, Hobby Horse and Pepper Grinder weapons as accessories. The figures will only be available in specialty stores and comic shops, and DST has made a special variant figure of Alice in Hysteria mode for Diamond Comics Distributors’ Previews catalog. Painted to re-create the invincible berzerker state she enters in the game, Hysteria Alice also comes with uniquely painted Vorpal blade, Hobby Horse and Pepper Grinder weapons. Look for them this summer!

At ease, soldier! Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Minimates are now at Toys “R” Us, including two-packs of Cap and the Red Skull, Frontline Cap and Bucky, and the TRU-exclusive USO Cap/Dum-Dum Dugan and Gabriel Jones/Hydra Flame Trooper! And specialty and comic book stores have their own exclusive assortment, including those first two sets plus Howard Stark and Peggy Carter, each with a Hydra Trooper. They’ll also have an assortment of army-building single packs, including a Hydra Soldier, Hydra Infantry, Hydra Pilot, Hydra Flame Trooper and the Red Skull in his Hydra Uniform! Visit http://www.comicshoplocator.com/ to find a store near you.

Then, in August, movie Cap makes his Marvel Select debut! Based on the likeness of actor Chris Evans from the upcoming summer 2011 blockbuster, the movie-accurate Captain America figure includes Marvel Select’s standard 16 points of articulation and stands approximately 7 inches tall. As an added bonus, the figure comes packaged with part of a display stand that can be combined with the base from the Red Skull movie figure (sold separately) to form a diorama, recreating a key scene from the movie! These figures are on the water now, and will hit comic shops and specialty stores in August!

February 15, 2011 : Now you see him, now you don’t.

invisible-man

Well, technically, you never see “him” until the very end of the film.  All you see is the wrappings he wears when he interacts with those he wants to be aware of his presence.  I’m speaking, of course, of the Invisible Man.  It took me so long to tell you all about Series 2 of Universal Monsters that I felt it only right to make it up to you by giving you a very early glimpse of series 3 (due Halloween 2012).  The Invisible Man will be available in 2 versions, a mass market edition with the iconic bandaged look; and a Universal Select version with a deluxe base and a new head sculpt from one of my favorite scenes in film - when he removes his goggles and fake nose, revealing emptiness beneath the bandages.  This figure was sculpted by Gabriel Marquez.  Stay tuned for updates regarding paint and additional series 3 characters.
