September 7, 2011 : Capture the Most Fearsome (and Beautiful) Pirate that Ever Lived

Once upon a time, Anne Bonny sailed the seven seas with Calico Jack and his crew, and was known as one of the most ruthless pirates in the business. She would not hesitate to pillage and plunder all over the Caribbean, and called Jack a quitter for not fighting to the death. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about crossing Anne and incurring her considerable wrath, since she’s long gone. But DST has shrunk her down and boxed her up for you! Right now, this 9-inch Femme Fatales PVC statue of Anne Bonny is currently sailing on a mighty cargo ship out of China, heading toward your favorite specialty store. Look for her soon, but beware — she may look like a delicate flower, but she will strike as quickly as the deadliest viper! Coming in September!

August 31, 2011 : New Minimates Vehicles Will Activate Your Turbo Boost

Super Pursuit Mode KITT with Michael Knight (Previews)

Super Pursuit Mode KITT with Michael Knight (Previews)

This Christmas, you’re getting a car. Not just any car — the Knight Industries Two Thousand, or “KITT” to his friends! That’s right, our third assortment of Minimates Vehicles will include not only a new Pirate Raiders pirate ship and a Minimates MAX Armored Personnel Carrier, but also KITT himself, star of the Knight Rider TV series in the 1980s along with some guy named Hasselhoff.

The 4-inch-long vehicle will come with a two-inch Michael Knight, with opening doors and room for a passenger, and it will only be available at Toys R Us in late November, along with Robert Deal’s pirate ship with Undercover Anne Bonny. But, since KITT needs his nemesis, we’re also releasing the evil KARR with Garthe Knight in that wave’s specialty-store and comic-shop-exclusive assortment, along with a British Navy ship with officer! Order both through your local retailer!

And if that’s not enough? A special-edition version of KITT, featuring his Super Pursuit Mode transformation, will be available a month later, just in time for the new year and only through Diamond Comics Distributors’ Previews catalog. Which means you should tell your local comic book shop to order it in! Don’t get left in the dust!

Since we had all eight ladies of Femme Fatales Minimates Sets 1 and 2 all in one place, we decided to take them on a field trip! Here’s a look at the women of both 2-inch mini-figure sets in their natural habitat, and be sure to pick up your own sets this fall!

August 11, 2011 : Femme Fatales Minimates: 16 Inches of Female Empowerment

Femme Fatales Minimates Series 1

Femme Fatales Minimates Series 1

We here at Diamond Select Toys believe in equality among toys. So when we realized that most of our Minimates lines were overwhelmingly male, we decided to make up for it by giving the women their own assortment! Springing out of our Femme Fatales line of statues, two four-figure box sets are planned so far, with the first set hitting stores in September. Set 1 features comic book luminaries Lady Death, Darkchylde, Tarot and Dawn, while Set 2 showcases some of DST’s own character designs: Anne Bonny, Medusa, Alice and Little Red. All stand 2 inches tall with 14 points of articulation, and all are compatible with existing Minimates lines like MAX and Pirate Raiders — so you can have Anne Bonny join Calico Jack’s pirate crew! Check out the photos below, then check back tomorrow to see our photo shoot!

Our Minimates photo contest is over, and we got a ton of great entries! Over 50 shots from around the world, featuring Marvel, Halo, Universal Monsters, Pirate Raiders, Ghostbusters, Minimates MAX, Back to the Future, Terminator and Playstation characters! While we loved them all, only one could win, and that was Les Koting of the Philippines. He’ll be getting Minimates from every line we make for his shot of Captain America and the Red Skull brawling, above! We’ll also send swag to the three runners-up — Don Brosius, Philip Mailloux and Brad Martin — but there were so many great shots we had to share some of them here!

Check ‘em out in the gallery, then head over to Facebook to enter our Marvel and Universal Select Photo Contest, starting soon!

June 20, 2011 : Original Femme Fatale Medusa Gets a Make-Over for DST’s Statue Line

In Greek mythology, Medusa was usually portrayed as being pretty gruesome: Half-snake, snakes for hair, and a face that could turn anyone to stone if they looked directly at her. That was reason enough to shield your eyes, but even seeing her reflection would give you the dry heaves. On the other hand, the Femme Fatales version of Medusa, from Diamond Select’s 9-inch PVC statue line, is just begging to get looked at. Art Asylum’s Uriel Caton came up with his eye-popping new Medusa design by starting as far away from the famous Medusa as possible. (Check out larger versions of the images at the bottom.)

June 16, 2011 : Just in Case: Carrying Your Minimates Has Never Been So Easy

Can’t bear to be separated from your Minimates collection? We understand. But with over 1,000 Minimates out there, it’s tough to haul them around without drawing some stares. Well, luckily, Diamond Select has re-issued the Minimates carrying case! Not only does it hold up to 72 Minimates, it comes with an exclusive glow-in-the-dark version of the Pirate Raiders cartographer Minimate (originally available with the glow-in-the-dark pirate ship) that you can’t get anywhere else! That way, your Minimates won’t get scared of the dark. Coming in September!

We’ve shown you lots of pretty pictures of Calico Jack and his Pirate Raiders, but who are these Minimate adventurers? Read on for the tale of Calico Jack — Minimates MAX style!

May 17, 2011 : Pirate Week Day Two: All Aboard the Ranger!

To keep things sailing smoothly in this week of piracy, we thought we’d share some new photos of the Ranger, Calico Jack’s pirate ship, due to hit Toys “R” Us in early July. The ship measures 9 inches from bow to stern, and 9 inches from keel to crow’s nest, and has more movable and removable parts than you can shake a spyglass at. Retractable planks, opening hatches and doors, a removable deck… this is every 2-inch pirate’s dream ride! It comes with one able-bearded crewman and Calico Jack’s trademark Jolly Roger flag (not shown), and has enough space to hold a whole crew of Minimates, plus whatever you can stow in the hold. It’s enough to make even the most cantankerous bilge rat sing, “Yarrr, I be on a boat!”

May 16, 2011 : It’s Pirate Week!

Minimates MAX: Calico Jack's Pirate Raiders

Minimates MAX: Calico Jack's Pirate Raiders

The newest Minimates MAX line, Calico Jack’s Pirate Raiders, is hitting Toys “R” Us stores across the country this week, so we thought we’d celebrate by doing a week of all things pirate! We’re kicking things off with the above look at the out-of-package figures (Back row: Nukpana, Captain Jonathan Barnet & Tom Brown & Nickolaas Vanhoorn; front row: Captain Charles Vanes, Robert Deal, Old Dad the Cooper & Calico Jack), but throughout the week we’ll learn their backstory, see their pimped-out ride, explore their interchangability and meet one of their female crewmates! Be sure to shiver your timbers in advance!
