December 22, 2011 : Light-Up Ghostbusters Statues Are a Bright Gift Idea

gbstatues
Most people will tell you that adults don’t need night lights, but we say they do — to make the night more horrifyingly spooky! No bunnies or butterflies here, our light-up Ghostbusters statues are all about the ghosts! Based on the blockbuster movies, there are two 7-inch statues in stores now, with a third on the way. Pick one up for your friend’s apartment on Central Park West, or for your own personal containment unit!

Slimer
When the Ghostbusters were summoned to save a hotel from a focused, non-terminal repeating phantasm (or a class 5 full roaming vapor), they encountered this little guy, a floating blob with arms and a mouth who does nothign but eat, eat, eat. From the moment he slimed Peter Venkman in the original film, he would go on to be one of the most popular characters in the franchise, appearing in Ghostbusters 2 as well as the animated series The Real Ghostbusters – later retitled Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters. Packed in a full-color box with a numbered certificate of authenticity and matching base, Slimer is limited to 1,984 pieces. Batteries included. Available now!

Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man
One stray thought is all it takes to choose the form of Gozer the Destructor, and in that form Gozer will lay waste to your world and everyone in it. Ghostbuster Ray Stanz thought he was making a smart move by thinking of marshmallow company mascot Mr. Stay-Puft, but Gozer manifested as a 100-foot-tall marshmallow man and made a beeline for the Ghostbusters, not caring what religious structures stood in his way. It took total protonic reversal — generated when the ‘Busters crossed their proton streams — to close the door to Gozer’s dimension and reduce the Destructor into a mass of white, fluffy goo. Featuring a Ghostbusters-themed base and a full-body light-up effect, this 7-inch statue is limited to 1,984 pieces (in honor of the film’s original release) and hand-numbered with a matching box and certificate of authenticity. Batteries included. Available now!

Terror Dog
Standing guard on the roof of 55 Central Park West in Manhattan for nearly 60 years, the ancient creatures known as Zuul the Gatekeeper and Vinz Clortho the Keymaster awaited the return of their master, the godlike entity Gozer the Gozerian, a.k.a. The Traveller, a.k.a. The Destructor. When the time grew near, they shed their stone shells and descended into the building below to possess human hosts and bring about the end of the world at the hands of Gozer. Featuring a Ghostbusters-themed base and light-up eyes, this 7-inch limited edition statue is hand-numbered with a matching box and certificate of authenticity. Limited to 1,984 pieces. Batteries included. Coming in February!

November 23, 2011 : Once Upon a Time, They Were Stories, But Now They’re Femme Fatales!

fffairytalesheader
This Sunday, a new episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time airs, featuring the modern-day adventures of our favorite fairy tales. Oddly enough, Diamond Select Toys has also thought about what Little Red Riding Hood might look like today — in fact, they sculpted it, and released her earlier this year in their Femme Fatales line of statues! The street-wise and wolf-wary Little Red is available now through Diamond’s Previews catalog, so look her up online or ask for her at your local comic shop. Coming in February 2012 is Snow White, wielding the scissors she used in “Snow White and Rose Red,” and following her in April is a more medieval take on Bo Peep, not so little any more and brandishing an axe to dispatch any wayward wolves. All of the Femme Fatales are 9 inches tall, and made of PVC plastic, and you can check out the full line-up, including Alice, Darkchylde and Medusa, at DiamondSelectToys.com!

October 11, 2011 : Femme Fatales Bo Peep: From Sheep Herder to Wolf-Killer

bopeephed

Diamond Select Toys loves the ladies. Specifically, they love the strong women who make up their Femme Fatales statue line, and they’ve had so much fun crafting 9-inch PVC versions of some of comicdom’s all-stars (Dawn, Darkchylde, Tarot) that they’ve gone a step further and created their own! Dark beauties Alice, Little Red, Snow White, Anne Bonny and Medusa have all been at least partially inspired by popular and historical renderings, but whenever a character has needed some more extensive conceptual work, DST has called in their in-house artist, Art Asylum inmate Uriel Caton. Uriel already handles much of DST’s Minimate design work, but he’s also been behind a handful of Femme Fatale designs, including DST’s latest, so we sat down with him to see how he found the concept for Little Bo Peep.

September 7, 2011 : Capture the Most Fearsome (and Beautiful) Pirate that Ever Lived

Once upon a time, Anne Bonny sailed the seven seas with Calico Jack and his crew, and was known as one of the most ruthless pirates in the business. She would not hesitate to pillage and plunder all over the Caribbean, and called Jack a quitter for not fighting to the death. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about crossing Anne and incurring her considerable wrath, since she’s long gone. But DST has shrunk her down and boxed her up for you! Right now, this 9-inch Femme Fatales PVC statue of Anne Bonny is currently sailing on a mighty cargo ship out of China, heading toward your favorite specialty store. Look for her soon, but beware — she may look like a delicate flower, but she will strike as quickly as the deadliest viper! Coming in September!

September 1, 2011 : Cuts Like a Knife: Four Femme Fatales, Four Killer Statues

blogheader
“Femme fatale.” The French phrase has come to describe any mysterious, bewitching beauty, but one must remember the English translation, which is “deadly woman.” These women may seduce you, but they will also rip your heart out (literally and/or metaphorically) when you have outlived your usefulness. It’s why Diamond Select Toys chose the name for our line of 9-inch PVC statues — the women we’re depicting are beautiful, but they’re also quite dangerous, as you can tell by the weapons they carry. (Although some are perfectly willing to make do with just their claws.) The sculpts on our four most recently announced pieces are all pretty killer, as well — check ‘em out below, and order the latest, Executioner Dawn, in this week’s Previews!

August 29, 2011 : Light ‘Em Up! A Look at the Next Ghostbusters Statue, the Terror Dog

“OK, so, she’s a dog.” While not Dana Barret’s finest moment, we all fondly remember the time when the two dogs perched on either side of the steps waiting for the arrival of Gozer. Now, Diamond Select Toys is giving you the chance to recreate that moment in your home with the Ghostbusters “Terror Dog” light-up statue. Here are some in-progress pictures, including the finished Bill Mancuso sculpt, and the great job painter Jason Wires did of capturing the look of the beast. As of this writing, the factory is getting the electronics finalized, but since I was blogging anyway, I thought I’d share a shot of the light-up feature taken for review purposes. Enjoy!

First of all, regarding the modern adult look given to Alice — what did you expect ?  Luckily, when it was time for a paint deco variant, Kat Sapene (painter extrodinaire with the patience of a saint) was more than up to the task.  I’ll stop talking and just let you bask in the glory of the picture. Details on availability to come!
